I'm Impressed!

Wow! A Newgrounds animator who can actually draw, and an animation with no fighting, no game or pop-culture references, and no pandering to insider crews! What a concept!

It's kinda thin on story, but that's the only criticism I have and I'm giving it a 10 anyway.. It's still cute and charming, and what it DOESN'T have is just as impressive as what it does: originality. If you work on more complex scripts, I think you'll really have something here. Nice work!

Nicely Done!

If I could offer any constructive criticism at all, it would be that you handle your character outlines differently than they do in the show, but maybe you meant to do that. You're outlining in black, I assume with the brush tool (which really does look more conventional than what they do in the show -- personally, I like it). In the show, they outline with paths and apply a colored stroke. That gives the lines an uncannily precise look that took some getting used to, but if you want to duplicate the style exactly, that's how you have to handle it. Of course, as I said, it's possible that you DIDN'T want to duplicate the show's style precisely. In either case, good job!

This is in Bad Taste

I laugh at Puppy covered with spooge in "Retarded Animal Babies." I think Salad Fingers rubbing his nipples with thistles is hilarious. But making fun of a man so soon after his death is beyond the pale. Funny drawing don't make something funny. This is sick.

Constructive criticism? Stay away from ridiculing the recently deceased. It's not edgy. It's juvenile, mean-spirited and -- here's a word I don't often use, but I mean it literally -- retarded.

psychicpebbles responds:

Why? WHAT changes 5 years after he's dead? Nothing.

You didn't know Jobs personally and nothing will become funnier. The guy is dead, but I gaurentee you'll be one of the people who tells a Steve Jobs joke or laughs at one in a few months or a few years. At least I'm not being a hypocrite and saying; "YEAH IT'S FUNNY BUT NOT NOW BECAUSE IT'LL BE FUNNY LATER BUT DON'T LAUGH NOW HYNUCK"

I believe you're the retarded one here, and anyone in your boat. If you can explain why it's not funny now because he JUST DIED, I'd love to hear this. If not, you're a massive hypocrite who gets offended when I lightly poke fun about a guy you didn't ever know. Ever.

This is Terrific!

The end, where we see that Hank actually ENJOYED peeing out his nose, took me completely by surprise. If you can continue to write like that (and M. Night Shyamalan obviously couldn't), you're going to have a great career.

Also, pay no attention to those who say things like, "It was too short!" A quick glance at their profiles has shown me that almost universally, they've never contributed anything and have probably never animated squat. A minute and a half is forever at 12 frames per second; at 24, it's twice as bad.

Great work!

I Want To Quote The Song...

...but I won't, because I hate it when people leave spoilers up front in the review column. Congratulations on getting every single character so brilliantly, perfectly wrong!

SPOILERS - If you haven't watched the Flash, un-focus your eyes here and stop reading:

Rorschach petting his furry friends... Comedian just wanting a little kiss... Laurie reading bedtime stories to three innocent Jons... Nite Owl with six-pack abs... Ozy saving the Comedian... Bubastis as a cheesy talking Scooby-Doo ripoff....

Priceless! :-D

Very Artistic

That's quite brilliant. I can't suggest anything that might improve it: it's style and tone are seamless. It is what it is. It's perfect.

You're probably right about taking your work someplace other than Newgrounds. This isn't really the showcase for it, although I think it's a shame you can't post it here too. I'd like to keep up with what you're doing.

Or, maybe you could animate some fighting stick figures against a burning, post-apocalyptic background. Newgrounds has sure never seen THAT before! You'd probably get at least a 4.2 here!

Yes, that last paragraph was dripping with sarcasm. Anyway, great work!

I didn't expect to like this...

...but I did. What can I say? It was--and I mean this as high praise indeed--really, really DUMB!

Keep up the dumb work! LOL!

This series is great!

Nice to know there are others whose sense of humor is as warped as mine.

The only reason I'm giving this a 9 instead of a 10 is that I couldn't understand Alice's lyrics. The parts I could pick out were hilarious, and the tune is very well-done. It's kind of a shame because I can tell you put a lot of work into your sound track--it's just... muddy. Actually the whole series suffers from muddy voices, but I've voted five on all of them anyway. Muddy sound is half a point. I rounded up.

It might be that you're compressing your sound too much. I've noticed your files are small for such long, elaborate cartoons. Have you considered compressing the sound less? Four or five megs isn't unreasonable for cartoons as long and detailed as yours.

Alternately, subtitling would solve the problem too.

Anyway, I kind of hate to nitpick. I think you do great work! Thanks for sharing it with us!

I Feel Guilty...

...for giving this a 10, but MAN! If the purpose of art is to evoke a response, that was art. Projectile vomiting is a response, isn't it?

But I liked it. What can I say? I'm bent. I always figured I was hard to offend. Now I know I'm impossible to offend.

Don't change a thing (unless maybe it's making the dialogue a little easier to understand and including at least one attractive female character somewhere--but I can't subtract even a point for that).

Good job, or... bad job! In this case they mean the same thing.

All Of These Are Great, But...

...This is definitely the funniest of the six so far. Blorgulot (is that how you spell it?) was adorable, although you were right when you told someone who wanted to see more of him that you didn't want to overuse him. He was laugh out loud funny in this episode, but a cute little Lovecraftian horror has only so much potential as an ongoing character. Either the joke would get old, or his personality would have to be developed to the point that he wasn't cute anymore.

I mentioned this in a review I wrote for the second part of Episode 6, but you really know your zoological anatomy. (Surinam toads! YUCKYUCKYUCKYUCKYUCK! And then to have mice come out... genius! I think I'm going to puke! HA-HA!)

All your creature designs show you know what you're doing.

Outstanding! 10/10

Scythemantis responds:

Oh yes, I'm almost a bigger weird-animal nerd than I am a monster or cartoon nerd! I even OWNED a surinam toad once, a large male, though it died of a fungal infection after a couple months (I think the same dread fungus that has decimated all frogkind)

It's been dangerously long since I released ep6-2...I've gotten voices recorded for a new episode, but I'm so procrastinatey, could be another couple months before I get around to animating :(

I think, therefore I'm mad.
